Memo Re: Potential Race Calendar for Remainder of 2022 Season/ Revised Qualification Procedure

Dear Ski NS Membership, 

At Ski NS we are currently trying our best to put together a race calendar for the remainder of the 2022 season. Presently there are still several unknowns due to the current Covid regulations. As such nothing is set in stone. However, as of right now this is our proposed race calendar: 

Feb 23-27 – Rolland Brunner Cup – Wentworth – U14 and Up 

• 2 day Training Camp (Weds & Thurs)  
• 2 SG Friday*
• 2 GS Saturday 
• 1 SL Sunday 

*Note: In accordance with the WSRC policy, only athletes who have participated in at least 3 days of speed training will be able to participate in Friday’s SG event.

Thurs Mar 3rd – Team Atlantic Cup – Wentworth – U14 and Up 

• 2 SL 

Friday Mar 4th – Qualification Time Trial – Wentworth – U14 and U16 

• 2 GS 

Mar 5-6 – GG Cup - Ben Eion – U8 and Up (U14, U16+ WSRC athletes)* 

• 2 SL (NO SX or Camp) 

*Note: WSRC will be providing coaching staff for U14, U16+ athletes at Ben Eion only. Our remaining coaching staff will be at Ski Wentworth to support the Slingshot. Due to our truncated race season we were unable to avoid this overlap of dates. 

Mar 6 – Slingshot – Wentworth - U10 and U12 

• 2 Kombi (One-run races) 

Friday Mar 11 – Byrne Memorial/ Scaravelli Cup – Wentworth - U12 & U14 

• SL 
• GS 

Selection for National Events: 

Due to the truncation of our race season here in Nova Scotia we will be amending our selection process for U16 Nationals, U16 Easterns and U14 Can-Ams and Canada Winter Games. The same World Cup 100 points system will be used. All other criteria will remain in place. However, we will only be counting the following races for U16 Nationals, U16 Easterns, and U14 Can-Ams: 

• Two 2-run GS results 
• Two 2-run SL results
• One SG result 
• One Other results (SL/GS/SG) 

All races listed above EXCEPT for the Byrne Memorial/ Scaravelli will count towards these events. 

**For Canada Winter Games (CWG) we will be counting races from next season as well. We will also look at the possibility of holding a time trial/derby style event if we feel there are not enough starts to adequately select a team based on the race calendar. This will be communicated over the summer. Right now, the only certainty is that the 10 starts this year will count towards CWG. Athletes will still need to count the same number of results for CWG for Para and able-bodied athletes as is outlined in the original criteria - 9 and 6 respectively in accordance with the criteria document.  

For U14 Can-Ams and U16 Easterns we have split the quota with NB given the current situation. Our quota is as follows: 

• For U14 Can-Ams we have 2 Male and 2 Female spots. 
• For U16 Easterns we have 4 Male and 4 Female spots. 

 

Quota for U16 Nationals remains 5 Male and 5 Female athletes. 

Quota for CWG is unchanged. 

Teams will be announced immediately following the conclusion of Ben Eion race on Monday March 7th. Athletes will have until Wednesday March 9th to submit any injury/illness exception applications. Final team announcement will be made Friday March 11th. 

All other previous rules and criteria apply. 

**All criteria which are listed in the U16 Nationals document will apply to U14 Can-Ams and U16 Easterns. 

**Location of U16 Easterns is TBD and we are expecting to have a decision on this by mid-February. 

Event info and travel/accommodation plans remain unchanged for U16 Nationals. We will send an update early next week regarding travel/accommodation plans for U14 Can-Ams and U16 Easterns once we have gathered a few details.
