COVID-19 Preparedness Update and Ski Camp Details

This week’s newsletter is packed with lots of important information. Please take a moment to read to the end to avoid missing any important deadlines. 

COVID-19 Preparedness Update

We know many of you are wondering what the ski race experience will look like this year in light of the evolving impact of COVID-19. While there are still a few details yet to be confirmed, the WSRC Board is working to finalize the plan. We will have a COVID-19 section on the WSRC website that will have all the up to date procedures and policies for the club in the coming weeks

In the interim, we wanted to share a few updates:

• We have established a COVID-19 committee that includes Gregor Bryne, Bruce Young, Dr. Bruce MacAuley and Shaun Stiles. 

• Guided by the Ski Nova Scotia Return to Sport plan, we are developing our own WSRC specific plan to ensure we follow guidelines for hygiene, distancing, and overall athlete safety. 

• We will announce the specifics of the “on-snow plan” closer to the start of the official WSRC season.

• We have purchased the TeamSnap app to facilitate health checks before athletes participate in activities and have been trialing this app during our Dryland training. The specifics on how to access and use the app will be updated on the website in the coming weeks

In addition to this, you may have noticed when you registered that we have added a new guarantee. If we are forced to close at any time during the 2020/21 season due to government restrictions related to COVID-19, we will offer a pro-rated refund or pro-rated credit towards the 2021-22 season, based on the percentage of the season lost.  Refunds for any other reason are subject to the regular refund policy which can be found under "about us" and "policies" on the website.

Mont Farlagne Training Camp - December 12th - 21st
The annual, optional training camp operated by Gregor Byrne will be hosted at Mont Farlagne this year. This 10-day camp is open to athletes U10 and up. (And up to 3 U8 athletes if there is interest). This is an excellent opportunity to help young athletes gain more days on snow in our short season. 

WSRC athletes are able to attend at a discounted rate. Camp fees are due by Nov. 10th.

Note: This is the same camp that is traditionally held at Mont Saint Anne, but has been relocated to avoid travel restrictions. If athletes are unable to travel to New Brunswick due to COVID-19 restrictions by the time that Camp dates arrive all monies will be refunded. Otherwise our WSRC refund policy would apply.

Clothing Update 

If you ordered WSRC branded race gear last year, you’ll be happy to hear that Helly Hanson has the order ready to ship. However, they are not yet able to confirm the arrival date. We will keep you posted. 

Mark the Calendar for Our Virtual Parent Meetings!

• U12  - Tuesday, November 24th 
• Senior Teams - Tuesday December 1st
• U8 & U10 - Tuesday, January 5th

These meetings offer you the opportunity to meet the coaching staff and parent representatives, learn about the expectations of young athletes and how you can support them, and ask any questions you may have. 

A zoom link will be sent closer to the date to all parents of registered athletes. 

Dryland Training U12 and Senior Team Athletes!

November 7th, 1:00 - 4:00pm @ Ski Wentworth (Arrival time 12:45pm)

There is no cost to attend. Be sure to register online before Saturday morning.
