Good evening!

We’ve had lots of questions by parents who’ve not attended away races int eh past about the race fees charged differing from those in the race notice.

It is important for our member families to know that additional races are not program requirements and attendance is at the discretion of member families.

For U8/U10/U12 racers, the WSRC program registration fee includes two excellent race opportunities in Wentworth:  the Slingshot and the Club Championships.

The focus of training in these age categories is to maximize their time on snow, which they can do effectively by training with our coaches at our home hill.

If athletes and their families are interested in attending away races and camps, please continue on for further clarification on how fees and pricing is established by the club…

The following is are excerpts from WSRC’s Financial Policy document which can be found under “About Us” & “Policies” on the website.

FEES

“WSRC operates on a philosophy of a user pay model where the base program registration fees are kept as low as possible in order to encourage new members and provide as inclusive a program as possible. T

The user pay model encompasses the following:
· Registration fees include the weekend program.
· Costs related to additional training and race events are supported by fees paid by participants only.”

AWAY RACE EXPENSES AND RACE ACCOUNTS

“For away races (races not held in Wentworth) the costs that are not covered by program fees are coaching time in addition to regular Saturday and Sunday programming, and coaching expenses (accommodation, meals and travel). These additional costs are spread out evenly amongst the WSRC athletes who attend the race.”

"WSRC estimates the additional costs in advance of the event based on historical information. The cost of registering through WSRC’s website includes the estimated additional costs and the host hill race fee. Members pay this up front when they register for the race.”

“Actual costs are tallied and divided amongst the actual number of WSRC participants and a race account reconciliation is done at the end of the year for each away race attended. If the actual costs are lower, a refund is applied and if the actual costs are higher, there is an amount owing. Member families are notified of their race account status in the Spring.”

Because Ben Eoin is a 3.5 day event, there are travel costs related to the distance, accommodation & meals for 3 nights, and coach wages for both Thursday and Friday.  This makes this Race & Camp Experience more expensive than a 2-day race at Poley or PEI, for example.

We realize the costs are not insignificant to attend races and reiterate that participation in races is completely optional and the personal decision of the family.  We encourage you to choose based on what works for your family.  If you have any questions about attending races, feel free to ask our program coordinator coaching@wentworthracing.com
