Do you know of someone looking to elevate their athletic performance?

On September 28, athletes aged 11-17 are invited to a free sport skills clinic at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth, N.S. where they will learn pro tips from members of the RBC Olympians Program.

The RBC Olympian Skills Clinic is a new, special opportunity for dedicated and motivated youth to learn your very own Atlantic RBC Olympians. Through a combination of fitness and classroom sessions, the goal is to inspire youth to maintain a positive attitude in sports, with a focus on having fun.

Participants can choose either a morning or afternoon workshop, and registration is available on a first-come first-served basis.  Sessions will cover advice on how to balance training and optimize performance, along with fitness drills and a nutrition seminar.  RBC Olympians will lead the sessions and connect with the next generation of athletes in the community, to bridge the gap between grassroots sports programs and the Canadian National Team.

The amateur sport landscape has changed rapidly the past decade, and as athletes who compete on the national and international stage we have been on the forefront. RBC Olympians are in a unique position to give back and help the next generation of upcoming athletes learn from our experiences.

As a young athlete it is so easy to focus all your attention on success in sport. Through our careers, we have experienced how important it is to have balance, even when training for something as big as the Olympics. The RBC Olympian Skills Clinic will focus on not only optimizing performance but also using the skills you have learned in sport to other aspects of life. This event is something we would have loved as young athletes, so we’re excited to share the opportunity with some future Olympians!

Alongside myself, the following Atlantic RBC Olympians will facilitate the Skills Clinic:

  • Hannah MacIntosh, Sprint Canoe, 2018 Pan Am
Championship bronze medalist, 2017 C2 Silver medalist, World Cup 2
  • Marshall Hughes, Kayak, 2019 Pan Am Games Silver
    medalist
  • Alex Scott, Kayak, 2018 Pan Am Championship
silver medalist, 2019 Senior Worlds team member

As members of the RBC Olympians Program, we have had support to focus on training and competing while receiving much-needed financial support, networking opportunities, and career-specific experience.  We have also had the chance to connect with our communities in a meaningful way and have a positive impact through partnerships with the very non-profit organizations that helped us get the where we are today.  This event is an extension of that investment to reach up and coming athletes and give them the skills and critical thinking to balance their academic and social responsibilities with their training.

If you would like to be a part of this great event, please feel free to contact us to volunteer for 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and/or 12:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Volunteers can assist with setup & tear down, registration, lunch, and working alongside RBC Olympians to interact with and guide the athletes through the stations.

If you know of someone who may be interested in registering for the event, please have them visit https://vote.pollstream.com/l/HvFuZO2 to sign up while space is still available.

With your support, this program will be key in helping young athletes make the next jump towards their goals! For more information or to volunteer, please contact mark.james@rbc.com or hannah.macintosh@rbc.com.
