TEAM ATLANTIC’S 2024 WSRC MSA FALL CAMP TWO
CAMP TWO – Wednesday Dec 11th to Saturday Dec 21st, 2023
Run by Team Atlantic, put on by WSRC, Fall Camp TWO is a Ten-Day High-Performance Training opportunity.
Camp Two is open to athletes U10 and up. If there are U8 athletes interested, we can assess and determine if U8 staff are available.
The first two to four days of the Camp are spent doing Structured Free Skiing drills and Exercises getting the athletes back to basics & balance on their skis again. The next 6 - 8 days are spent on our own private training lanes working thru SL & GS Drill Sets as well as Partial and Full Course sets. The High-Speed Quad chairlift on the back side of MSA allows for incredible numbers of laps for our athletes. We will have one lanes for U10 and U12 athletes as well as lanes for U14 and Up athletes. Lots of room for ALL age groups with the ability to set age-specific Drills and Skills exercises as well as full and partial Race Sets. We also have built in one OFF-DAY on day six of eleven. This is to be a day of REST so that athletes are able to get the most out of the two 5-Day training blocks.
To put it into perspective the speed of the Lift allows our athletes to get more than double the number of runs (with more vertical and gates each run) than we would get at Wentworth in ONE day. That being said each day at MSA is at least a weekend worth of skiing at our home hill. So, the athletes that come to Camp get the equivalent of 10 weekends of skiing/training with a coach - effectively almost doubling their basic training time for the winter. This does not even take into account all of the time the athletes spend with their coaches off-snow at this Camp as well.
WSRC Fall Camp Two is for athletes from U10 to U19. This Camp is for those athletes who want to do MORE. We have been offering this training opportunity for 20 years now and have observed some great results from motivated athletes who add this 10-day camp to their Pre-Season Training regimen. Although just attending a Camp will not make them better – They need to come to Camp (Parents too) with the intention of focusing on their sport and practicing as well as they can while there - with an effort and a willingness to try new things as well as to work with Coaching Staff to make changes. Athletes that come to camp with a higher level of fitness will get more from this opportunity.
It is a jump start to the season for these athletes and is Ten Days of fun / intensive training with high-level Coaching and low Athlete / Coach ratio numbers. These athletes will be immersed in ski racing with all age groupers and coaching staff for 10/11 days from early morning until bedtime. It provides opportunities for the younger athletes to interact with their older counter-parts as well as age groupers from other clubs in our region.
The focus for the younger age groups (U10 and U12) is FUN / Learning and Mileage. Basic skills / lots of free skiing / Gates and drill sets as coaching staff feels necessary. The Coaching staff will work with them doing age-appropriate mental training in the evenings as well as building a process based (age appropriate) plan for the season.
The focus for the older age groups will be to begin where we left off last season and to establish a starting point for each individual’s Process based plan and direction for the season.
The Coaches will work with each of the athletes U14 and older to help them establish a template of Process based Goals with which to attack their season. With this Plan they will have a road map for moving ever forward – But it is up to the athlete to put in the work required.
This Camp represents the starting point to their On-Snow season and with that we will coach to instil good On-Snow training habits:
Mental Training Routine
- Introduce athletes (who do not already train daily) to the idea of DAILY Mental Training.
- Develop basic Mental Training Goals for the season.
- Develop basic Training and Racing Mental Plans
- Develop a personal Positive Self-Talk vocabulary for each Athlete.
- To keep Daily Training Journals.
Nutritional and Hydration Routine
- Introduce athletes to Nutritional needs for training days VS racing days.
- Understanding Foods/Drinks that will provide the necessary energy to train well.
- Establishing Nutritional Goals for Training and Racing.
Dryland Routine
- Before and after training each day
- To develop an understanding as to the exercises important for optimal performance.
- Develop Dryland Goals for the season.
On-Snow Training Routine
- To Focus on Training Goals for the session.
- To put in Max Effort each session with regard to established Goals.
- To learn to stay “in the Moment” while they train.
- To Work with Coaching staff focusing on positive changes and improvements that are based in the use of external cues.
- To keep up with Hydration, Nutritional and Rest needs over the course of the training session.
Equipment Maintenance Routine
- Knowing and understand their ski racing equipment – Functionality as well as maintenance requirements and care for optimal performance.
- Develop a ski tuning routine to carry forward for the course of the season.
- Develop an understanding proper boot set-up.
At the completion of this Camp Athletes will be set up for the coming season of racing and training. They will have the beginnings of a daily Mental routine, Dryland Routine, Nutritional Plan as well as self-reliance and responsibility for both their successes and failures – Learning from both as they move forward each day.
The Athletes live, train and work with each other, their parents, and coaches for the duration of this Camp. The close proximity immerses the group in Ski Racing all day every day for the ten days. They make friendships that will outlast their ski racing careers as well as having access to their coaches 24 / 7. From evening video sessions, tuning clinics, and mental training sessions to early morning Dryland Training – The athletes are Full-Tilt-Racing for the duration.
The Athletes are expected to help with course set-up (when asked) as well as tear-down each day and are usually assigned in Teams to complete these tasks. They learn life lessons in responsibility as well as functioning within the group.
By the end of ten days of Camp Two it is hard for the participating Athletes (as well as the Parents & Staff) to leave the group – But they have made connections that will long outlast this Camp, this Season and their Ski Racing careers.
